Toyota has achieved a rare double with the new Tarago V6 - it is Australia’s most powerful people mover as well as being the most fuel efficient among its six cylinder rivals.

The new 3.5 litre V6 engine in Tarago has 9.8 per cent more power and at least 5.5 per cent better fuel economy than any other six cylinder people mover on the market.

Advanced technology in Tarago V6 enables it to develop maximum power of 202kW and peak torque of 340Nm.

As well as setting the power and economy standard, Tarago V6 also develops 61.6 per cent more power and 51.8 per cent more torque than its four cylinder namesake.

Fuel economy is 10.2 litres per 100km for the GLi V6 model and 10.3 litres per 100km for the GLX and Ultima grades.*

The next best among Tarago’s six cylinder petrol rivals is 10.9 litres per 100km.

Toyota Australia’s senior executive director sales and marketing David Buttner said the new Tarago is designed to broaden the vehicle’s appeal for families and a range of new business customers.

“Families who need the seating or luggage capacity of Tarago will appreciate the extra power and remarkable fuel economy of the V6,” Mr Buttner said.

“We are also targeting customers such as hotel chains and limousine companies who require a luxury vehicle for transporting valued clientele to and from the airport or on shopping or sightseeing expeditions,” he said.

The V6 range is priced from AUD$54,690.**

All three Tarago V6 grades are fitted with the new engine, a six speed electronic automatic transmission, dual zone climate control air conditioning, cruise control, MP3 compatible CD tuner, remote central locking, power windows and a fold away third row seat.

Tarago V6 comes with a comprehensive range of safety features, including seven air bags, a pre-crash seatbelt system, steering assisted vehicle stability control, and anti-lock brakes with brake assist and electronic brakeforce distribution.

Tarago’s all alloy V6 engine, shared with the Lexus RX350 and Australian built Toyota Aurion, has dual variable valve timing with intelligence (VVT-i) for improved performance and fuel efficiency.

It is mated to a six speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with artificial intelligence that can also be used as a sequential style manual shifter.

GLi grade has eight seats, including a three passenger second-row seat with 60/40 split.

GLX and Ultima grades offer seven seats, including two adjustable captain’s chairs in the second row which feature integrated ottomans.

The seven seat models also feature a sliding centre console “shuttle box” that can move between the front and second row seats.

All grades have a three passenger third row seat with 60/40 split that can be stowed in an underfloor compartment - electronically for the Ultima and manually for the other grades.

Distinctive features on the GLX model include roof rails, 17 inch alloy wheels, front and rear parking sonar, Optitron instruments, woodgrain trim and rear climate controlled air conditioning.

Leading technology on the Ultima model includes high intensity discharge (HID) headlamps with adaptive front lighting system (AFS) and auto levelling.

Toyota’s AFS technology enables the headlamps to swivel on low beam to provide better lighting when turning corners.

Ultima models also feature power sliding side doors, leather seats, heated driver’s and passenger’s front seat, dual sunroofs (one fixed and the other tilt adjustable) with sunshades and satellite navigation.
