Toyota has won two of the major categories in the highly regarded International Engine of the Year awards.

For the fourth consecutive year, the 1.5-litre petrol engine of the Hybrid Synergy Drive® has won the ‘Best Fuel Economy’ category for its application in the Toyota Prius.

Hybrid Synergy Drive® has won this category every year since it was launched in the second-generation Prius.

Toyota is committed to powertrain innovation as a major contributor to its goal of establishing cleaner vehicles.

The Hybrid Synergy Drive® system is the leading advanced powertrain for production cars today.

In addition to the record-breaking fourth year of category wins, the Toyota Prius has also set another record with 12 wins over its two generations.

In the same awards, the lightweight three-cylinder engine from the Toyota Aygo (sold in Europe) was named best sub 1.0-litre power unit.

In the United Kingdom, the Toyota Prius is the first hybrid car to achieve the highest-ranking model in satisfying new-car owners.

The Prius tied with the Lexus IS in the J.D. Power and Associates/What Car? magazine 2007 UK Car Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) Study.

“The Toyota Prius clearly demonstrates that car owners think green is good,” said Steve Fowler, editor of What Car? magazine.

The Study’s four measurements of customer satisfaction, in order of importance, are: quality and reliability; vehicle appeal; dealer service satisfaction; and ownership costs.
